Introductory Memo
Ladakh and legend share a historic association. This beautiful land, an integral part of India, is steeped in tales of courage, sacrifice and resistance. Many of these stories acted as the first line of defence against external aggression. Among them stands the towering figure of General Zorawar Singh, whose campaigns ensured that this strategically important region remained within the Indian civilisational sphere. His military expeditions brought Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh and Gilgit-Baltistan under Dogra rule. Even today, only those who visit Leh and make it a point to see the historic Zorawar Fort truly understand the scale of his contribution. His swift high-altitude campaigns, exceptional leadership and warrior spirit continue to inspire generations of Indians.
