Introductory Memo
India is home to the world's largest NGO ecosystem. Millions of nonprofit organisations work across education, healthcare, disaster relief, women's empowerment, environmental conservation, rural development, and countless other fields, often complementing the efforts of governments and communities. But an ecosystem of this scale also demands robust oversight. Stronger transparency, accountability, and regulatory compliance are essential not to constrain genuine charitable work, but to protect public trust, ensure responsible use of funds, and strengthen the credibility of the sector itself.
